The Return of Dining Rooms

Open floor plans may have been all the rage the last few years, but the trends predict dedicated dining rooms will return in 2023. While you don’t necessarily need to carve out a formal dining room with a large table, you should have an intimate place to gather.

After years of blowing out all the walls and creating large open spaces, we crave cozy spaces that encourage connection. Open-concept living is still in style, but even within open spaces, we are discovering creative ways to create more intimate niches, nooks, and cozy corners.

Smaller Dining Rooms

Are you desiring a place for friends and family to share dinner, appetizers, and drinks? Consider adding a banquette and a smaller table when space is limited. The addition of built-ins adds storage and areas to hold platers and dishes for serving.

Open Floor Plan vs. Traditional Floor Plans

Today the kitchen has become the most used room in the house. Consider how the whole family gathers in the kitchen. Interior designers and architects are designing open floor plan kitchens with large islands that can accommodate many people. But are Formal Dining Rooms Obsolete?

In a traditional floor plan, the kitchen was hidden away. Which you rarely see in newer construction projects today. Consider the advantage of all the messiness of cooking hidden away from guests. That is undoubtedly an advantage!
