In interior design, it is crucial to clearly understand the project timeline to ensure everyone is on the same page. Here is an overview of what our clients anticipate at each project stage.

The First Steps in Starting Your Project

First, we will have a discovery call to understand your design goals and project scope. Next, there will be a 90-minute design consultation at your location, and there is a fee for this service. During this consultation, we will evaluate the project area, answer design-related questions, suggest color schemes, and provide recommendations for lighting, window treatments, styling, furniture, and layout enhancement. You will receive plenty of advice and ideas for transforming your space.

We will also discuss your design needs, preferences, budget, and timeline for the project. If we are the right firm for you and we both agree to move forward, we will create a contract outlining the scope of work for the project. Based on the initial consultation, the designer will prepare a proposal with an estimated timeline, scope of work, and design fees.

Design Concept Development

The designer creates design concepts, including mood boards, color schemes, and initial layouts. The client then reviews the concepts, provides feedback, and suggests any revisions needed. The designer then revises the design based on client feedback. Next comes the design development phase, which will take 4-6 weeks to create. We create detailed floor plans and 3D renderings, select materials, finishes, and furnishings, and present the final design to the client for approval. After your approval, the budget will be finalized based on the approved design and material choices.

The Procurement & Ordering

The designer will start by ordering all the materials, furnishings, and decor items needed for your project. Clients should be aware that certain items, such as upholstered furniture and custom or specialty pieces, may have longer lead times, which can extend this phase. Typically, upholstered pieces take at least 8-12 weeks for production and an additional 2-4 weeks for shipping and delivery. For case goods, such as tables, cabinets, and dressers, if not custom, it usually takes 6-8 weeks for production and 2-4 weeks for delivery to the project site. Keep in mind that furniture manufacturers often close for vacation for several weeks in the summer months, which can further delay the production of your furniture. This part of your project should take 12- 16 weeks until the installation. Rest assured that your designer will update you regularly regarding the status of orders and any potential delays.

One way to avoid delays is to source non-custom stock for your project. However, you must select and use only the fabric and finishes offered. We could also purchase furniture from showrooms off the floor. We have decorated whole homes this way. The timeframe can be as quick as a few weeks. Remember this saying: It is either the best quality, you can have it quickly, or it is expensive.

Construction & Installation

If the project involves construction or remodeling, the physical work occurs during this phase, lasting anywhere from 4 to 36 weeks or more in full home renos. The designer will regularly update progress, unforeseen issues, and timeline adjustments. However, the procurement and ordering phase will mostly happen during this timeframe, so your project will have many moving parts. Once all the construction is complete, the designer arranges to install furniture, decor, and final touches.

Regular communication is crucial throughout the project. Your designer will provide updates, be transparent about delays, and respond promptly to your questions. However, as a client, please be prepared for unexpected delays, especially in procurement or construction. We strive to meet our client's expectations regarding potential timeline changes, ensuring your timelines are realistic and account for possible delays.

At the end of the project, the client reviews the completed project. Any remaining issues or touch-ups are noted and addressed promptly. The designer will provide all necessary documentation, including warranties and care instructions.
