Repurpose and Reupholster

Has this happened to you? You’re sitting in your living room thinking you want a new updated design look. But you’re trying to figure out where to start. And with all the shipping delays, will you even be able to get new furniture in the next six months to a year? Our West Palm Beach, FL, clients faced the same thoughts.

The Mediterranean-style home needed updating, and the clients wanted a fresh design. In addition, they have four grown children. We wanted to create a stylish, comfortable home for the whole family. The goal was to bring calming, neutral design without many colors; however, since the house is by the ocean, we added navy blue to the plan.

Our inspiration for the design was to update and declutter the overall space. As a result, we repurposed and reupholstered many of the pieces in the project. In addition, we added performance fabrics that can handle spills, sun, and heavy use.

The clients wanted a home they would feel comfortable entertaining in and, since they have four children, could handle the flow of visitors. The clients gave us a budget and asked that we work with some of their existing furniture.

So, the best way to tackle the problem was to source from local vendors on in-stock pieces, repurpose what they have, and reupholster some of their existing furniture.

Before and After

This living room had great bones but needed a design update. First, we reupholstered the two sofas and chairs with a neutral-toned, textured, high-performance fabric. We also created two custom ottomans in deep navy. Next up, by repurposing the consoles on either side of the fireplace, we saved them from ending in a landfill somewhere. Next, we sourced the marble and brass cocktail table locally. The finishing touches included the gorgeous Fortuny gold leaf chandelier, adding faux plants, a wool and silk area rug (also sourced locally), accessories, and repurposing the iron the stature of the bird on the table.

Dining Room Reinterpreted

Reupholstering the dining chairs was an excellent way of giving new life to this space. In addition to the upholstery, the crystal wall sconces and chandelier were a sparkling centerpiece of the design. Interior Designer Sandra Asdourian felt the tray ceiling needed something to add a pop of color. She said the light blue tones add a soothing vibe that flows with the wool area rug.

Primary Bedroom Ensuite

We mixed in repurposed pieces for the primary bedroom ensuite, reupholstered the chaise lounge in the bathroom, and purchased new furniture from the bedroom. New wall-to-wall carpeting was part of the design plan. The drapery, window treatments, and hardware needed to be reworked. In addition, we updated the bathroom design by painting the cabinetry and adding new pulls. Finally, working with a local artist, we removed the old wallpaper and faux paint the walls with a textured, water-resistant finish. Stunning crystal chandeliers finish the design.

Guest Bedrooms can be VIP Special

Creating a special place for your guests is essential. Is your color scheme in your guest bedroom guest-ready? For instance, think about adding some soothing colors and soft textures. We created a color scheme that flows with the whole house and is a restful retreat for their guests. We repurposed the bed frame in this design and reupholstered the club chair. Our recommendation to clients when styling their beds is that we start with the linens first. It's much easier to select a paint color that matches your linens than the other. Select a color palette you can live with long-term and buy the best quality bedding you can afford. Sleeping on high-quality cotton sheets will not only help you sleep better. They will last for many, many years. The lamps pull in that coastal vibe, and the accessories create a relaxing VIP guest bedroom retreat.
