Selecting the Perfect Wall Color
Some people have a challenging time selecting wall colors. As interior designers, our clients inquire about paint colors all the time. So, how do you go about choosing the perfect wall color? When designing a room or starting a new project. The most important thing for us is the room’s floor plan, mood, and function. So, we don’t start with the paint colors. However, your wall color is an integral part of the overall mood of the design.
When Thinking about Selecting the Perfect Wall Color
It would help if you looked at the overall brightness in the room. “Lighting is everything.” First, look at which direction the sun is entering the room. Does it get morning sun or late afternoon rays? Next, observe the luminosity in the room during the evening. Note the brightness with a few lamps on. Then with every lighting fixture, light, and overhead lighting. In other words, you are trying to understand how color will reflect or absorb in the room. Lastly, take your paint samples into the room. Look at the examples in every light; early morning, mid-afternoon, and evening lighting. Try it with the lights dim and bright.
Color is Subjective to Each Person
Color fads come and go. However, some colors stand the test of time. Consider a light soft, creamy beige. This color works with many hardscapes in homes with warm color palettes. Add gray-taupe colors such as SW Perfect Geige for cool undertones. This paint color is lovely, with friendly and cool tones. However, a bold navy blue is timeless. It mixes well with white, beige, and gray.
