Decorating your vacation home

When it comes time to decorate your vacation home, you may feel a little uneasy. The style you are comfortable with in your primary residence will only sometimes function in your second home. Having a vacation home is the ultimate dream for some people, a chance to vacation in a favorite location that is also your home. Also, it’s an excellent opportunity to host family and friends. And many people will rent out the house when not in use. Airbnb and VRBO rentals have become very popular.

Selecting a Style for Your Vacation Home Decor

Consider the design style for your vacation home decor. First, ask yourself a few questions, do you want the place to be relaxed and comfortable? Or do you want a more formal, opulent, and luxurious feeling with high-end finishes? Then, you could create a unique style if you want it somewhere in between. We ask our clients how they want to feel in the home as a starting point for building their design.

Think about Your Color Scheme

Create a color scheme of colors you love. This is your vacation home. Use colors that inspire and make you happy. If your favorite color is purple, add it to your home, maybe as a guest bedroom color scheme. Soft color with luxurious finishes is the perfect getaway for a primary bedroom design. Consider a neutral color palette if you rent your vacation home.

Use your Homes Location as Inspiration for your Design

Shopping locally, visiting local artists, and understanding the local style will inspire your interior design. By spending your home décor dollars locally, you invest in the local economy and support small local businesses. In addition, your new locally-sourced collection will fill your vacation home with attractive, statement-making conversation pieces.

Consider the durability of finishes for long-term use

For your home away from home, investing in performance fabrics and indoor/ outdoor rugs is essential for durability and long-term use. Plus, you want it to stand up to the rigors of visiting family or a revolving door of renters. Your sofa is a critical item to spend money on because you spend a lot of time on it. You could apply this thought to other purchases as well. Other furniture that will have heavy use are mattresses, dining chairs, and outdoor furniture. Again, invest the time and money in durable, sturdy, and comfortable pieces.

Your Outdoor Space

Landscaping can be difficult to maintain in a vacation home, so create a simple design with concrete sculptures, benches, and statuaries. Also, ask if your HOA provides landscaping services.

Your property may have an outdoor living area; this is your opportunity to create additional lounging and dining spaces. These areas allow you to enjoy the climate of your vacation home, giving you even more space to gather. Again, the outside decor can be an extension of your interior design.
