What is Biophilic Design?
Biophilic design is based on the idea that if we bring nature into our homes. We will be healthier and connect better with our environment. The idea is relevant in our daily life. For instance, we travel to tropical locations. We spend money to sightsee in national parks and nature preserves. We relax on beaches, hike mountains, and explore jungles. Shinrin yoku is the Japanese word for forest bathing. Which means going out in to nature. Also, it can be as easy as adding a few house plants to your living room.
How can You add More Biophilic Elements to your Home
Adding biophilic elements are important. As a society, we spend many hours indoors. Therefore, it can be as simple as adding natural colors and shapes. In other words, think of greens, blues, and neutral colors. As an Interior Designer, I love to add texture to my designs. For instance, the use of an overall soft color palette. Shapes and materials are important. Rounder shapes, soft colors and wood elements as seen in nature.



Move Forward the Next Steps
Interiors and exteriors can benefit from Biophilic Design. There is little drawback to adding nature to your home. However, it is argued that this idea will have health, environmental, and economic benefits for people living there. Although, its name was coined in recent history. For instance, the biophilic design has been seen in architecture from as far back as the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.
