Starting a New Design Project

Are you thinking of starting a New Design Project? Fantastic! Probably you have been looking around your home and feel it's time to make some changes. However, before you start a new project or choose anything, you should ask yourself three questions.

  • How would you like to use this space?

  • What is the mood you want for the room? e.g., comfortable, formal, sanctuary

  • How much do you want to invest in this project with time, money, and effort?

How do you want to use this room?

It's essential to consider the use of space carefully. For instance, your family eats dinner in front of the TV, or is the family together at the table? When designing the room, something to keep in mind would be performance fabrics and area rugs that can handle the traffic—and the dining table's size, height, and shape. Maybe a breakfast bar with some bar stools is what's needed.

What is the mood you want for the room?

A room's mood is about how you feel in the space. In other words, for a family room design, you may want a great place to relax, enjoy a cocktail, and watch the fire. But if you have a house full of young children. The family room could be for reading, playing games, and watching TV.

How much do you want to invest in this project with time, money, and effort?

The last part of a successful design project is understanding how much you are willing to invest in your project. In other words, how much time do you personally want to spend on the project? Do you want to invest time shopping? However, if you still need to answer the first two questions, you could be running all over the place from store to store, trying to figure out your design style and the room's purpose. Also, how much have you allotted for the cost of the project? Doing your homework on the cost of things will go a long way. Similarly, researching and understanding the costs of a kitchen or living room design will give you a better idea of your overall costs.

In conclusion, the best-laid plans start with a plan of action, implementation, and follow through to completion.
